At Mediclo, it’s more than just scrubs. We strive to create a sustainable brand while giving the very best to healthcare professionals around the world. We try our best to practice sustainability in all aspects of our business and product’s life-cycle.
As with almost all products in our life, we have a carbon footprint. To offset our carbon and promote sustainability in a business, we have become business partners with One Tree Planted, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. One Tree Planted is on a mission of global reforestation to help repair the damage caused by industry and resource extraction. Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat for over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. This is our One-Tree-Per-Order Pledge.
Currently, our scrubs are made from a Tencel™ blend fabric, consisting of 67% Tencel™, 30% polyester, and 3% spandex. Tencel™ is a fiber made from the wood chips of responsibly harvested trees. The wood chips go through a closed-loop process, in which 99% of the solvent is recovered, purified, and reused. This cycle uses less water and energy than most other conventional fibers.
The other 33% of our fabric is made from synthetic fibers. We currently use 30% polyester and 3% spandex. Although we currently are using new synthetic fibers, we are in the process of switching to recycled synthetic fibers! We are at the tail-end stage of this process and we are happy to be one step closer to becoming more sustainable.
Our factory is based in Vietnam. Our factory was WRAP (Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production) certified in 2019 and awarded the Gold Certificate of Compliance. All WRAP certified production factories must meet their 12 principles as well as any additional requirements at the time. They ensure fair labor practices, a clean working environment, and much more. We believe that sustainability is about doing what we can to manage and protect the Earth’s resources as well as its inhabitants.
Packaging waste is a large part of online shopping and it accumulates over time. Most packaging is used only once and is thrown out after. We have decided to switch our outer packaging to 100% recycled and recyclable paper packaging! We want our customers to feel guilt-free when receiving their Mediclo package. We still have a few more changes to makes to our packaging overall but we are still happy to share this change.
