Why did you choose your profession? I chose to be a physician because I wanted to be a leader in my community and invoke change through the caring of others. I also want to diversify the field of medicine and show other men in my demographic the benefits of becoming a physician.
Biggest Inspiration: My inspiration is my mother. She raised four kids on her own as an immigrant in America. Growing up in an underserved community and the last four, I saw her struggle so that we could have a better life. After my dad passed away and when we moved to America, she worked two jobs while going to nursing school. My work ethic and ambition is a derivative of her example.
Current Passion Project: My current passion is day trading as well as videography. I started trading 4months ago as a way to earn money while in medical school, and I fell in love with the process. I’ve been making videos for over five years now. I love creating new ways to express my life through vlogging.
Fun Fact 1: I was named the most outstanding senior young man of my high school, Milby high school, in 2010.
Fun fact 2 : I’m 6‘8“ and I played on the University of Houston men’s basketball team my freshman year in college for half a semester.
Do you have any advice for others interested in entering your field? My advice for prospective medical students is to have a plan and make sure you keep track of it. Medical school is very competitive and many people will tell you that it is hard but with a good plan, hard work, and determination it is not that bad. Having a competitive mindset helped me to excel in my studies. It allowed me to never be settled with my level of understanding or knowledge on a subject. It made me continue to push whenever I saw my classmates excel. As you continue you will start to realize that you truly are just competing with yourself and that every day your mission is to be more knowledgeable than you were the previous day.
